The Lime Butterfly

Have you seen these beauties fluttering around? In this post, we will learn a lot about this extremely common butterfly in Asia - which has the tendency to well, be everywhere!


Lime Butterfly (scientific name: Papilio demoleus)

This is probably the most common of all of the butterflies in Asia


This is a male lime butterfly. The difference between the male and female butterfly is more evident when they open their wings. The male lime butterfly has a red spot at the bottom of the hind wings (circled in the pic above) but the female one has a blue lunule (moon-shaped spot) on top of the red spot.



This is a female one. The arrow shows the blue lunule spot.


I raise these butterflies at home (females fly to our house on the 11th storey to lay eggs
